HALLELUJAH

I have completed my last final and summer has begun!

I have not posted in a while because of finals but now… freeeedommm, freedommm, freeeedommmm, i say freeeeedom!!

So, because of finals I decided to treat myself to coconut milk yogurt. I have wanted to try it for so long and they finally have it at my local grocery store. The little guy cost me $1.89! Was it worth the buck 89? I don’t think so. It was tasty don’t get me wrong, I just did not really enjoy the thiner/runny consistency and it’s slightly over the top sweetness. In addtion, it only supplies one gram of protein as opposed to the usual 6 of soy based yogurts. I do love the fact that it is soy free though. Sometimes I feel like I’m on soy-overload, so this was a nice change. I did throw a banana into the cup and it made a nice afternoon snack.

I think I prefer a thicker yogurt (even if it is soy) like this one!:

Whole Soy and Co. yogurt is my favorite vegan yogurt to date. The plain is perfect for adding things like fruit, or cinnimon, or cereal to it and really nice for baking with or smoothie makin. Lets just say its good for everything- especially eating it right out of the 32 oz. tub and finishing that tub in one sitting. Oh man, it’s that good.

Slow going on this blog, I know. After I get settled I promise recipes, garden shots, plus lots of good stuff. Enjoy the day!

Trying to Find a Balance

I originally wanted to title my blog “Trying to Find a Balance” -after the song by Atmosphere- but I opted not to on account of it not being clear that this is a blog about the joys of veganism. That song does pump you up for an intense workout-if anyone is interested in knowing.

Today is a good morning indeed; I slept in and then prepared the tastiest smoothie. It was inspired by a recipe on Ani Phyo’s website, however it is much more simple (because I don’t own a high speed blender) and it is not raw (because I don’t own a high speed blender). I’ve been craving dreamsicles after seeing KidzDream orange cream smoothies at the store. Being as cheap as I am, I opted to make my own instead.

One banana, one valencia orange, one and a half cups almond milk; blend it up.

And the result is delicious:

I don’t know how some of you manage to take pictures before diving in.

Off to hit the work out center. And what will be on my ipod? Atmosphere, of course!

I love pictures

so I have a few.

Happy Friday Everyone. I spent the day with my good friend Krystal and a soy chai latte, studying for a microbio lab final. Any studying is too much this time of year.

Gena at the ChoosingRaw blog is having a fantastic spiralizer giveaway! Yes, I know! She has the prettiest blog so go check it out. Even if I don’t win I plan to buy one of those babies after I buy a Vitamix. I have saved every dime I can (a few visa gift cards, lots of change!, easter and b-day money from my gram) to get that pulverizing powerhouse of a machine. We’ll see if I can ever afford one. I am foregoing using lights and have been bringing my computer to the office in my apartment complex to save pennies in order to get one.

I have a few pictures. One of the ketchup I spoke of yesterday and the others are of a highly reccomended book [signed by my idol, the author] my papa gave me as a gift.

If you ever feel like there’s nothing you can do to change/improve the chaotic world we live in, this book is a must read. It proves that any individual, no matter how rich, poor, educated, lucky, can make a difference and impact Earth and all she holds.

One really can make a difference (though if we all worked together that'd be nice too).

Something old, something new…

…nothing borrowed, nothing blue, but some delicious edibles.

One of the first vegan blogs I had ever read was Katie’s when she was CCV. Now she is ChocolateCoveredKatie and I am a loyal reader still. She is having a new-food-contest. EVERYONE- go check it out; not only do you get a chance to win a prize, you get to expand your food horizons! I’d love to supply a link to Katie’s blog but I just do not know how…yet.

Next time I hit Whole Foods (which I’m hoping will be very soon) I am going to purchase the oddest item I can find in honor of her contest.

In the mean time, Trader Joe’s organic ketchup! I was never a big fan of ketchup and wanted to vomit every time I saw my brother drowning everything he consumed with it, however I purchased sweet potatoes from TJ’s to make fries with and I just couldn’t ignore their call to be topped with ketchup. The fries (which should be called chips considering that was their shape) were wonderful with this devine ketchup straight up for dipping.

I am not a girl who wants to go shoe shopping, I want to drool over shelf upon shelf of FOOD. I love TJ’s (the one-stop-shop dream for vegans. From vegan friendly shampoos/conditioners, soaps, vitamins, of course FOOD, plus more wonderful thangs. I cannot go there enough. Let’s just say the employees know me by name, profession, diet, and mentrual cycle-joke on the latter.) and if you have never been, I suggested you go immediately.

Another store I do enjoy is Whole Foods where I found these vegan treasures. Look how pretty:

One pineapple and one raspberry enrobed in delicious dark chocolate

They were unbelievable – for a buck 79 a piece they better be. The silky chocolate wrapped around the oozing fruity center was pure joy.

Bare with me, I am not computer savvy whatsoever. This thing I am calling a blog is going to be a slow and steady work in progress. Any suggestions, comments, questions are more than welcome.
